Back to Peer Summit Series Speakers Wil and Jennifer Caton Owners Bar C Ranch Wil and Jennifer Caton started the Bar C Ranch in 2000 when they moved to Clarke County Virginia in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. They have both worked with animals for many years and Jennifer has a degree in Animal Science from Virginia Tech. The Bar C Ranch is operated with the idea that is important for people to learn about the animals with whom we share the earth. The Catons hope that by having the opportunity to meet some of these animals personally, people may develop a stronger interest in and sense of responsibility for the world around them. It is their pleasure to share their love and knowledge of animals with people of all ages. All of the animals come from a variety of backgrounds. Many were born on the farm, some come from other farms or zoos and some came to us from rescue organizations or from homes that could no longer keep them. Whatever their history, we love them all and enjoy sharing our lives with them. EVENT Animals Supporting Recovery and Mental Wellness According to the National Institute of Health (2018), research on human-animal interactions is still relatively new although; there have been studies reporting animals can serve as a source of comfort and support. In support of these studies, they have demonstrated that interacting with animals has shown to decrease levels of cortisol (a stress-related hormone) and lower blood pressure. Other studies have found that animals can reduce loneliness, increase feelings of social support, and boost your mood. For these reasons, we invite you to take immersive and interactive tour with us around the Bar C Ranch, meeting a variety of animals and learning more about each. Sightings may include Llamas, Goats, Kangaroos, Camels, Porcupines, and more! Get a behind the scenes look at life on the farm. It is a source of constant joy to get to know the many different individual personalities and to share these incredible animals with other. We look forward to seeing you there and meeting these friendly faces. View all Peer Summit Series Events

In 2019, Priya and Winona were named two of Teen Vogue's 21 under 21 Young People Changing the World. Currently, they are juniors in college—Priya attends Princeton and Winona attends Harvard. Presentation information is being cultivated. Please check back soon. DAY 2 KEYNOTE Choosing Racial Literacy Winona Guo and Priya Vulchi examine of the seeds of racism and strategies for effecting change. Winona and Priya started CHOOSE in 2014 because they realized every part of their daily lives—from neighborhoods to friend groups—were shaped by racial division. Spurred by the realization that they had nearly completed high school without hearing any substantive discussion about racism in school, the two young women deferred college admission for a year to collect first-person accounts of how racism plays out in this country every day--and often in unexpected ways. Winona and Priya share key experiences talking to people from all walks of life about race and identity collected on their cross-country tour of America and reveal the lines that separate us based on race or other perceived differences and how telling our stories—and listening deeply to the stories of others—are the first and most crucial steps we can take towards negating racial inequity in our culture. Participants will gain insight to the tools for effective conversations about race. NJPN provides technical assistance to each regional coalition to help successfully assess data, determine consumption patterns and consequences, utilize the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) process to prioritize needs and develop a comprehensive strategic plan with corresponding prevention models. Guided by national research, NJPN facilitates trainings for coalitions as they identify and create positive environmental changes. NJPN trainings strengthen each coalition by providing topics such as: capacity building, CADCA’s Core Competencies, navigating the SPF process, cultural competence, project sustainability, along with environmental programs and strategies to complement the priorities of each region. "Members of each regional coalition bring to the table a diverse set of skills and resources aimed at reaching similar goals across the state. NJPN is committed to advancing their efforts by strengthening each regional coalition through training sessions, collaboration, and technical assistance." - Diane Litterer, CEO and Executive Director, NJPN Atlantic Atlantic Prevention Resources Agency 626 N.
