Shauntelle Hammonds is the Executive Director of Peter’s Place RVA. She is a Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS), a Peer Recovery Coach, and a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor Assistant. Shauntelle is currently pursuing a undergrad degree in social work at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Cultural Competency, Awareness & The LGBTQIA+ Community
What is cultural competency? What is cultural awareness? And how do we include this in our work? This break out session will focus on how to be aware of our biases, stigma, and personal beliefs toward the LGBTQIA+ community. We will discuss best practices on how to support LGBTQIA individuals seeking recovery support. In this session we will dive into terms, definitions, and effective tools to help deliver competent peer support.
