Staying Grounded During the Holidays: Managing Counselor Stress and Strengthening Client Relapse Prevention

The holiday season can bring unique challenges for both counselors and clients. Increased stress, emotional triggers, and changes in routine can test even the most seasoned professionals and put clients at greater risk for relapse. This interactive 3-hour workshop is designed to help addiction counselors strengthen their own resilience while supporting clients through one of the most vulnerable times of the year.

Participants will explore the personal and professional stressors that often arise during the holidays and learn practical, evidence-based strategies for maintaining balance and preventing burnout. The training also focuses on helping clients anticipate and manage holiday-specific relapse triggers through actionable interventions that promote connection, coping, and recovery stability.

Through guided reflection, discussion, and skill practice, participants will leave with a personalized holiday self-care plan and client-ready relapse prevention tools to apply immediately in their practice.
