The Southwest Council provides Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug prevention and education services. Programs are available for all ages ranging from prenatal and preschool through older adults. Many of the programs are free of charge to community and school groups. The three resource centers are open to the public on a daily basis.
The Southwest Council brings the following NJPN programs to Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem Counties:

We also provide the following additional programs:
Addiction Professionals Certification Courses*
The Council offers various courses that can lead to certification as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS).
Assessment and Evaluation Services*
Professional substance abuse evaluations are provided for juveniles, adolescents and adults.
Beginning Awareness Basic Education Studies (BABES)*
This program for pre-school and elementary school children addresses the concepts of positive self-image, decision- making skills, coping skills, and learning to say no to alcohol and drugs.
Botvin’s Life-skills Training (Salem County Only)
This program for middle school students focuses on drug resistance and general social skills.
Bullying Prevention*
The goal of this prevention program is to reduce or eliminate existing bullying in and out of the school setting. It also works to prevent new bullying problems.
CORE Team Training*
The Council teaches teams of school personnel to identify, screen, assess and provide treatment referrals to at-risk students within their schools.
Current Trends in Street Drugs
This program is designed to teach parents, educators and community members about current trends in the use and abuse of legal and illegal drugs.
Employee Assistance Programs*
This service helps local businesses identify and assist employees with substance abuse and related problems.
Footprints for LifeTM*
Footprints for LifeTM is a research-based primary prevention program that builds assets and teaches important life skills to students in grades two and three. Through the use of puppets and stories that feature “real life” situations experienced by a children’s soccer team, Footprints for LifeTM teaches students about planning and decision-making practices, interpersonal skills, peer pressure, and peaceful conflict resolution. The goal of Footprints for LifeTM is to help young children build a strong foundation of life skills rooted in key social competencies.
Forest Friends
This prevention program for children in kindergarten through second grade uses puppets to teach children about conflict resolution and skill-building techniques.
Internet Service
The use of the Internet is available at our Resource Center so community members may further research topics related to alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.
Intoxicated Driver Resource Center (IDRC)- Cumberland and Salem Counties
This program is mandatory for anyone convicted of driving or boating under the influence in New Jersey. Program topics include consequences of drinking and driving, laws relating to driving while intoxicated, the nature of addiction and how self-help groups assist in recovery.
Keepin’ it R.E.A.L. (KIR)*
This skill-building program, designed for varoius age groups, teaches life skills such as risk assessment, decision making, and drug resistance while also enhancing anti-drug norms
and attitudes.
Parenting for Prevention
This prevention presentation alerts parents and other concerned adults to current drug trends and teaches them ways to help their children resist substance abuse.
Professional Trainings and Workshops
Educational services for professionals, businesses and community groups are available upon request. Programs focus on increasing awareness of risk factors leading to substance abuse and various prevention strategies.
Referral Services
We provide community members with information about prevention, treatment and self-help services available.
Strengthening Families Provided for Military Families
This comprehensive, primary prevention program focuses on building and sustaining “healthy families.” Both parents and children learn and practice new behaviors that they can incorporate into family relationships.
Youth Matters
This substance abuse prevention program addresses issues relevant to students and their community while engaging the students throughout the process.
