Morris County Prevention is Key is a private, non-profit organization that was established in 1988. We are part of a statewide network of community-based organizations dedicated to providing information and education to prevent problems with alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. We provide services to individuals, families, professionals, community groups, schools, businesses and legislators.
We also have a prevention resource center, which includes videos, brochures and other literature addressing issues related to alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. These materials are available to professionals, schools, parents and concerned community members who are looking for more information or assistance.
Morris County Prevention is Key brings the following NJPN programs to Morris County:
- Morris County Prevention Resource Center
- Childhood Drinking (CD) Coalition
- Compass Gang Prevention Program
- Disabilities and Addiction Project
- Faith-based Initiative
- Jason’s Message: Prescription and Over-the-Counter Drug Abuse Prevention
- Supporting New Jersey’s Military Families

We also provide the following additional program:
Primary Prevention Programming
Community Trials Intervention
This multi-component, community-based program will be delivered to alter alcohol use patterns and related problems among people of all ages by using a specific set of environmental interventions implemented by coalitions to create policy and system changes.
Coping With Work and Stress
This program is designed to teach participants behavioral, social and cognitive coping strategies to modify risk and protective factors, given the relationship of these factors to psychological symptoms and substance abuse.
Forest Friends
Forest Friends is an asset-building program designed to develop and reinforce resiliency skills in children ages five through nine. In this engaging program, children learn about dealing with feelings and how to communicate effectively, how to make good and healthy decisions, the importance of truth and trust to develop healthy relationships, and effective coping skills to deal with difficult life situations.
Footprints for Life™
Footprints for Life is a research-based primary prevention program that builds assets and teaches important life skills to students in grades two and three. Through the use of puppets and stories that feature “real life” situations experienced by a children’s soccer team, Footprints for Life teaches students about planning and decision-making practices, interpersonal skills, peer pressure, and peaceful conflict resolution. The goal of Footprints for Life is to help young children build a strong foundation of life skills rooted in key social competencies.
Keys to Innervisions (KIV)
KIV is an in-school program for students in grades 6 through 9. It features a curriculum about change, especially changing beliefs and behaviors that lead to difficulties in school and social situations.
Parenting Wisely
The program is an interactive CD-ROM program designed for parents of adolescents and pre-adolescents (age 8 to 18). Parenting Wisely reduces child behavioral problems, delinquency and substance abuse among adolescents, improves parenting knowledge and skills, and strengthens the relationship between adolescents and parents.
The Morris County Strategic Prevention Framework Implementation Project
This project will target 18- to 25-year olds within the collegiate community of Morris County with a goal of reducing the harmful consequences of alcohol and drug use among the targeted group.
Strengthening Families Program
The goal of Strengthening Families is to prevent substance abuse in youth by helping them to build skills and by giving parents more tools to help their children become responsible young adults. The program also helps families improve the relationship between parents and youth and decreases the level of family conflict.
